The guild is pleased to welcome Jacquie Gering of Tallgrass Prairie Studio for 3 classes at Island Quilter. Jacquie is an inspired quilter and teacher with a passion for modern design. She is also, luckily for us, the co-author of the book Quilting Modern: Techniques and Projects for Improvisational Quilts. Written with our guild president Katie Pedersen, the book is a great example of how beautiful things can come from long distance relationships.
Jacquie makes her home in Chicago, so the chance to take a class taught by these two teachers together is not to be missed.
Sponsored by Island Quilter, and located on beautiful Vashon Island, WA, the classes are as follows:
- Monday, May 20th (10am to 5pm) – Slice and Dice Workshop/Slice and Insert Technique and Projects: Join authors Jacquie Gering and Katie Pedersen for a full day workshop focusing on the improvisational Slice and Insert piecing technique from their book Quilting Modern: Techniques and Projects for Improvisational Quilts.
- Tuesday, May 21st (12pm to 6pm) – All Hexagons All the Time Workshop: Love hexagons, but dread hand piecing? Love sewing hexagons by machine, but find marking tedious? Be prepared to love machine-piecing hexagons and master the dreaded Y-seam with ease.
- Wednesday, May 22nd (10am to 5pm) – Going Crazy Workshop/Modern Crazy Piecing: Step into the present with this modern version of crazy piecing from the Going Crazy Chapter in Quilting Modern: Techniques and Projects for Improvisational Quilts.
All classes are $99, with lunch and/or snacks included (no lunch Wednesday). Accommodations are available on Vashon Island. See the Island Quilter class page for information and to register.
I took the Crazy Piecing class on wednesday and had a great time. Katie and Jacquie were so helpful, supportive and willing to help us gain some confidence in our work. I have played with scrapy quilts and this class gave me some good basic “how to’s” so I can try the next level. I had a good time connecting with the other SMQG members there (Martha, you and I are kindred spirits 😉 and Sue, thanks for the nourishment to get through the day 😉 I also enjoyed meeting the very kind woman from Colorado and another woman from Vashon. I enjoyed the whole day and wish we could make it a two day.
If you were considering taking this and didn’t get it pulled together in time, I highly encourage you to check out any future classes. It was nice getting two opinions on various topics, it helped me feel more confident in my own.
