1. Mother’s Day Crafting, 2. Hotpads for Sewing Summit Swap, 3. Leaf Potholders, 4. Teapot Potholder for DSMMQG Swap, 5. Apple Potholders, 6. Patchwork Placemats
For the month of August we will be holding a potholder swap. All who participate will need to make a set of pot holders (two oven mitts, two hotpads, or one mitt and hot pad combo) and bring it to the next general meeting in September. For every set you bring you take a set home. Katie put together a great Pinterest board full of tutorials and inspiration.
Some helpful tips:
– Insult-Brite is made for this type of project or you can use two layers of batting (cotton or wool)
– stay away from polyester batting – it is not heat safe
– less is more when considering quilting for anything mitt-like – if it’s too stiff you won’t be able to bend it for easy grabbing
– include a grommet or some type of loop for easy hanging storage
This is a great opportunity to try out a new technique, find a use for an orphaned quilt block, practice a new free motion pattern, play with your scraps, or try out a new color way!
Amber – awesome job on the challenge rules and putting the information and mosaic together! Looks like so much fun and I already got some fun fabric for my potholders. Special thanks to Sandie for getting this information out.
yay, i love this challenge! can’t wait to make mine.
