As a few keen members have discovered, the links to our curved piecing workshops are live! We are excited to welcome Latifah Saafir to Seattle next month for a fun weekend of sewing all the curves and soaking up some knowledge in a Saturday evening lecture.

Latifah Saafir is a founding member of both the Los Angeles MQG and the national Modern Quilt Guild and is known for creating great modern quilt patterns. She recently finished up a kickstarter campaign to start her own line of rulers and kids patterns. We will be working on two of her patterns with curves – Molehills and Glam Clam II.

Saturday April 9th will start with the Molehills class. Tackle curved piecing and learn a relaxed version of foundation piecing while assembling the Molehills Quilt pattern.

The workshop is 6 hours long with time for a one hour break built in. Bring your sewing machine and basic sewing supplies for a day in the studio. The pattern is included. Class will be held at Quiltworks Northwest in Bellevue from 10:30 – 5:30.

Saturday evening we will be learning all about Latifah’s process and seeing some of her gorgeous quilts up close. The lecture is free for all Seattle MQG members and will be open to non-members for a small fee. More information will be coming later with time and location.

On Sunday, we will be working on steeper curves with Latifah’s Glam Clam pattern. She’s had this pattern out for a few years now and it remains hugely popular (check out a few versions on instagram). The latest version of the pattern will be making its debut with a few different options for piecing your individual clams. Participants will also have the option to make regular clamshells.

The workshop is 5 hours long with time for a lunch break built in. Bring your sewing machine and basic sewing supplies for a day in the studio. The pattern is included. Class will be held at Quiltworks Northwest in Bellevue from 10:30 – 4:30.

Both classes are now open for registration to Seattle MQG members only. We ask that you register for only one or the other until Monday 3/14 so that everyone has a chance to sign up. On Monday, you are welcome to sign up for both if you’d like. On Sunday March 20th, registration will open to everyone else (both members of other MQGs and the general public). We do have a short registration window for these classes – only one month – so make sure you grab your spot as soon as possible.
