2018 Block Lotto

WHAT: Block Lotto

WHEN: 2018, March through November.

HOW: Block designs are coming from the MQG BOM resources. They won’t necessarily be the current months’ block or the colors from the directions. Each month will have a different color inspiration for the (block lotto) block. All these blocks are delivered unfinished and always use only solid fabrics unless otherwise noted.

Anyone can also opt to make themselves a sampler version as a secondary component (not part of the drawing each month). The optional
sampler quilt can have a palette set by the individual.

WHY: Anyone making one or more blocks gets into the drawing to take all the blocks home that month. Participants may make as many of the blocks as they want for the lotto portion, your name goes in the drawing once for each block you make. There will be a collection spot at each meeting and a basket, paper scraps and pencils for drawing provided each month.

February assignment due at March meeting is:

October 2016 – Double T Block version 03 from the examples, 12.5” unfinished. We will be making a 2 color block. Use solid black for the background and a solid or print that reads as solid of, Pantone’s 2018 color of the year, ultra violet for the geese sections of the block.

(Instructions For the block can be found HERE) Find on MQG website under Resources, Block Study, locate Oct 2016 block on page 2, click on block, click on Download File. Refer to directions in this file or print file for your reference.

***NOTE:  The 12″ block cutting instructions are for a 3 color block and may be a little confusing for some of you. (I know it was for me until I studied it a bit.) So here is the simple way to figure out the cutting. The (2) 5-1/4″ squares and the (5) 4-1/2″ squares are the black fabric and the (8) 2-7/8″ squares are the purple fabric. It goes together really fast, even for me and I noticed that the flying geese blocks come out a tiny bit bigger than the 4-1/2″ black squares. Don’t square them up, just center on your black squares and call it good. Also don’t trim up the finished block. Leave that for the Lotto Block Winner to do, as I assure you every block will be a different size when finished and it is best to square up all of the blocks at the same time by the same person.

And if you are printing out the directions you only need to print pages 5, 6 and 7 for the block instructions. – Kae
