It’s time to get started on our QuiltCon charity quilt! Did you see the sneak peek Louise posted of our quilt design? It’s pretty awesome!

We decided to go with all the colors in the specified color palette. And that would be Kona Snow, White, Bahama Blue, Honey Dew, Pansy, Amethyst, and Noble Purple.

Believe it or not, we’ve done the hardest part for you already – cutting up 18 yards of fabric! And it’ll be at this week’s meeting for you to pick up. By the time you get it, you’ll find 18 – 1” x 6” strips in a baggie, maybe a mix of colors like in the photo below, maybe just the two neutral fabrics. Either way, the block construction is the same.

Begin by sewing all your strips into pairs. For the colored block,  piece strips randomly together, meaning it’s ok if two of the same colored strips are next to each other. For the neutral sets, please sew them together alternating snow and white. Take the time to press them all at this point, as it’ll help your block lay straighter and flatter in the end. And for these blocks, let’s press all seams open.

Stitch the pairs into larger segments and press again.

Now it’s time to stitch all your strips together and press well. AND you’re done with your block! Seriously, one block will only take 10 minutes!

Just for consistency’s sake, your giving committee with cut out the diamond shapes once the blocks are all in. That’ll give you time to stitch up another block!

These sew together really quickly, so please consider making several blocks! We need 185. Yikes! Bring your completed blocks to the September 12 meeting OR the guild retreat September 7-9.
