January 2019 Meeting Recap

Budget Update – Cordelia

  • Final balance sheet from 2018 indicated projected versus actual revenues and expenses.  2018 ended with a positive balance in the account
  • The projected numbers for 2019 were provided

Board Introductions

Each incoming board member introduced themselves and showed some of their quilting work.

Block of the Month – Stefanie

  • Stephanie (@satterwhitequilts) will be running this year’s BOM, called “Begonia”
  • It is a mystery quilt based on half square triangle blocks

2018 Member Survey – Matt

  • Results from the 2018 member survey were presented by Matt
  • Where feasible, feedback will incorporated into upcoming guild initiatives

2019 Membership Renewals

  • All renewals are to be paid online for 2019 and must be paid by February 28, 2019
  • There is a link for payment on the membership page of the blog
  • 2019 dues are $57 ($55 +$2PayPal Fee)
  • Membership cards will be available to print online in March

Membership Updates

  • We are looking for members to act as buddies to new members during guild meetings
  • This entails sitting with them at the meeting, introducing to others, answering questions, etc.
  • Also looking into helping members find others for possible carpooling

Giving Committee

  • Thank you to Debbie and Louise for leading the Giving Committee for the past 3 years
  • New committee chairs will be Rachel and Erica
  • Plan is to have a new quilt block assignment every two months
  • Instructions for the first quilt are up (See the blog post) and blocks will be due at the March meeting

Name Tag Swap

  • The guild is doing a name tag swap with signups due by January 16th.  Details can be found HERE

Krista Hennebury Workshops

  • Workshop registration will open after the February meeting.  Links will be available on the blog
  • Two workshops will be offered:  Courthouse Color Play April 6 at the Greenwood Senior Center, and Speed Date with Improv April 7 at Quilting Mayhem in Snohomish – check the calendar for times

Quiltcon 2019

  • February 20-24th, 2019 in Nashville, TN
  • The awards ceremony for QuiltCon 2019 will be moved to the evening of Wednesday February 20th immediately following badge pick up

  • Join the Seattle MQG Circle!  This is where meeting minutes will be posted
  • Check out the monthly content the MQG puts out – Block Study, Quilt of the Month, Webinars, Articles
  • Find episodes of Fresh Quilting
  • Upload photos to the Seattle MQG Circle Albums for guild events and quilts for use on the guild facebook and instagram pages

  • Design Panel: How to Design Quilts using Different tools- with Steph Skadal, Michelle Willkie, Daisy Aschehoug, and Amy Friend January 17th 11:30 am PST
  • Textile Surface Design: Experimental Techniques with Tim Eads February 7, 5pm PST & February 8, 5pm PST

Sew-Ins:

  • Saturday, January 26th @ Maker’s Mercantile 10:30am – 4:30pm
  • The guild is looking for more locations for sew-ins that have larger space and parking – if you have suggestions, please email seattlemodernquiltguild@gmail.com

MQG Events

  • The next MQG Sew Day will be January 20th  in all time zones. Sew days happen the third Sunday of each month. #mqgsewday

  • A Gathering of Quilters:  A meet-up with members and friends of SMQG, SAQA, and CQA quilt guilds.  Saturday January 12th, 2019 10:30 am to 2:00 pm.
