March – Giving Blocks

Firstly thank you for contributing blocks for the January giving quilt. We are looking forward to putting them together.

For the next giving quilt we have decided to make use of the great resources that the MQG provides it’s members. The block pattern is Side Stripe by Renee Tallman, a South Bay Area MQG member, from Block Studies – February 2018.

You have been provided two squares of Kaffe Fasset print fabric which was generously donated to our guild. You will need to add any neutral cotton fabric from your own stash. The neutral fabric can be any variant of white from cream to gray spectrum, but preferably as close to white as possible.

For the stripe use any solid or a fabric that reads as a single color or almost a solid.

At the end you will have two blocks as shown:

  1. The squares you passed out at the meeting are 9” square. I just want to verify that we are to follow the dimensions in the instructions and cut them down to 7-1/2”? Thanks.

    • Yes the blocks are a little bigger than required. Feel free to trim them down as needed. I actually made the block and then trimmed it down to 7-1/2″, but whatever works for you.

  2. is there supposed to be a 1/4″ seam allowance at the top point of the triangle once the 2 squares are joined?

  4. For some reason I thought we had until the May meeting to turn these in. Is that true or will I be too late by then? 😦

    • Karen you are fine. We are still accepting blocks until the May meeting. I put together one quilt top as I had enough blocks already. Looking forward to receiving more blocks.
