Block of the Month – Stefanie

  • Stephanie (@satterwhitequilts) is running this year’s BOM, called “Begonia”
  • It is a mystery quilt based on half square triangle blocks
  • See the blog for information on the January – May blocks for this quilt

Folklife

  • Lotte collected quilts for Folklife which will be held over Memorial Day weekend at Seattle Center
  • Quilts will be returned at the June meeting
  • Volunteers are needed for set up and take down of the quilts
  • See the blog for further information

Giving Committee

  • Instructions for the next giving quilt are posted on the blog
  • The quilt is based on Anna Maria Horner’s Feathers
  • Green background fabric was handed out at the meeting – more is available from Erica if needed

Name Tag Swap

  • Took place at the April meeting

Gwen Marston Tribute

  • Guild members shared their Gwen-inspired quilts and quilts they started in a Gwen workshop
  • They also told stories of their experiences with her
  • Some Gwen Marston “wisdom” was shared
    • Strive for originality in your work
    • Don’t worry about what the quilt police have to say
    • Curiosity about quilts and quilt making is a good thing (what if I try that…)
    • Try working in a series, and try working small to try out an idea
    • and….Double fold binding is bulbous

Book Giveaway

  • Two books were given away in a number drawing
  • Gwen Marston’s A Common Thread and Angela Walters’ & Christa Watson’s The Ultimate Guide to Machine Quilting

New MQG Website

  • Join the Seattle MQG Circle!  This is where meeting minutes will be posted
  • Check out the monthly content from the MQG – Block Study, Quilt of the Month, Webinars
  • Find episodes of Fresh Quilting
  • Upload photos of guild events and quilts for possible use on the guild facebook and instagram pages

Sew-Ins

  • Saturday June 22nd @Shoreline Public Library 10:30am – 5pm
  • The guild is looking for new locations for sew-ins that have larger spaces and parking

  • Martha, Elizabeth, and Rosie W. placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the Modern category
  • Debbie and Martha placed 1st, and 2nd in the Small Pieced category
  • Debbie placed 3rd in Group Quilts with Improv Alliance (our 2016 BOM!)
  • Dionne’s wonderful quilting picked up two ribbons!

Sew and Tell

  • Guild members shared quilts and finished projects.  Watch Facebook and Instagram for photos.
