  • Stephanie (@satterwhitequilts) is running this year’s BOM, called “Begonia”
  • It is a mystery quilt based on half square triangle blocks

2020 Block of the Month

  • Kathy (@a_swede_life) and Susan (@sushi.farmer) have agreed to design and coordinate the next BOM
  • Look for more information on the blog in the new year!.

2020 Board Elections

Elections were held at the November 6 meeting and the following slate was voted in:

  • President Elect – Katie S.
  • VP of Membership – Megan V.
  • VP of Programs (2 people) – Aline C. & Elizabeth G.
  • Treasurer – Liz C.
  • Secretary – Rima K.

Note that the President for 2020, David Owen Hastings, was elected in 2019.

Opportunities to Get Involved in 2020

Please see a board member if you are interested in contributing to the success of our guild.

  • Help us make the nomination/election process more transparent by getting involved
  • Volunteer on a committee to help plan a retreat, swap, or help greet members and visitors at meetings
  • Volunteer to help organize a sew-in in your neighborhood at libraries, churches, or coffee shops

2020 Membership Renewal

Membership renewal is live on the blog.  Dues payment will be solely over paypal again this year.

  • Please renew by December 15 to ensure a smooth transition to new membership cards.
  • Dues are the same as last year at $55 plus a $2 paypal fee for a total of $57

Your dues fund rental of meeting space, learning opportunities and programming, charity quilts, deposits and future activities, quarterly sew-ins at GSC and the annual holiday party sew-in.

Giving Committee

Blocks for the Quiltcon Charity Quilt should have been “turned in” to Erica or Rachel.  Excess fabric should also have been returned. If you still have yours please contact them to make arrangements for a hand-off.

Upcoming Workshops

Anna Maria Horner is coming to see us in January 2020!  Registration for all events is open – see the blog for the registration link.

  • Trunk Show & Talk at Quilting Mayhem Sunday evening, 1/19/20 – $10 for SEAMQG members $15 for non-members
  • Workshops are for members only
    • Color Fluency Workshop on Saturday 1/25/20
    • Cross Country Workshop on Sunday 1/26/20

Tara Faughnan will be teaching workshops on March 14 & 15, 2020 and Timna Tarr will be teaching workshops on September 12 & 13 and giving a trunk show at our September 9 guild meeting.

Holiday Party Sew-In

  • Takes the Place of the December Meeting
  • Saturday December 7, 2019 11:30am – 7:30pm
  • Note that space for sewing machines is limited.  We recommend bringing handwork.
  • Annual Quilted item swap/steal will take place:
    • Small quilted item or handmade sewing item
    • Items do not have to be holiday themed
    • Bring your item wrapped with your name somewhere inside the gift – this is a blind swap and winner of your item will want to thank you
    • Numbers will be drawn to determine gift choosing order
    • A gift can be stolen three times

MQG Website

  • Join the Seattle MQG Circle!  This is where meeting minutes are posted
  • Check out the monthly content from the MQG – Block Study, Quilt of the Month, Webinars
  • Find episodes of Fresh Quilting
  • Upload photos of guild events and quilts for possible use on the guild facebook and instagram pages

Sew-Ins

  • The guild is looking for new locations for sew-ins that have larger spaces and parking
  • We are also looking for members interested in organizing local/neighborhood sew-ins

MQG Events

  • Join the Seattle MQG Circle – This is where meeting minutes will be posted
    • Check out the monthly content the MQG puts out – Block Study, Quilt of the Month, Webinars, Etc.
    • Find episodes of Fresh Quilting
  • Watch for the latest Modern Monthly for new webinar offerings
  • Check out the recorded library of webinars (Resources section at themodernquiltguild.com)
  • The new MQG Sessions are being kicked off this year with the first one being held in Denver.
    • December 1, 2019: Registration opens for MQG Members
    • January 6, 2020: Registration opens for Non-Members
    • May 7-9, 2020: The MQG Sessions!

  • Next meeting will be the Annual Holiday Party sew-in on Saturday December 7 starting at 11:30 am
