February 2020 Meeting Minutes

Attendance:  55 members and 5 visitors attended the February 12, 2020 meeting

Call to order – David

Quiltcon “Rejects”

Guild members showed amazing quilts that did not make it into Quiltcon.

Volunteer in 2020

Instagram:  The guild has a volunteer opportunity to manage the guild’s instagram account.  There are opportunities to get creative with this! Please contact Jana @reveriequilting if you are interested or have questions.

  • Note that the guild makes every effort to honor a member’s wishes about online privacy.  You can let Jana (or the next coordinator) know or indicate your preference on the sign up sheet when you go up for show & tell.

Sew-Ins:  The guild is looking for members to organize local/neighborhood sew-ins.  These can be in a public space or in a member’s home around a dining room table.  There is no size requirement for how many members the space should hold. That is up to the organizer.

  • The guild is looking for new locations for sew-ins that have larger spaces and parking.  Do you know of any in the greater Seattle area that you can connect us with?

2020 Membership Update

  • We have 155 members who registered this year
  • 144 were renewing members and 15 were new
  • You can print your membership cards for this year by following the instructions on the blog under “Membership”
  • If you are a new member for 2020 don’t forget to pick up your logo tag and pin – usually at the sign in table at meetings or talk to Megan

2020 Block of the Month

  • Susan (@sushifarmer) and Kathy (@a_swede_life) are designing and coordinating this year’s BOM, a row-by-row quilt called “Cascadia Cabin in the Woods.”  Sewers can opt to follow the instructions as written or improvise where they are inspired to do so. As a result, the pattern is suitable for a wide range of skill levels.
  • Monthly instructions will be on the blog on the first of each month.  The first set was posted February 1st.

Color Fluency Challenge

This fun challenge will start in March.  The theme will be based on Anna Maria Horner’s method of color selection.  If you took the Color Fluency class, keep your fabrics to use for this challenge. If not, we will discuss how to select fabrics from your stash based on AMH’s ideas.  There will be an easy block pattern to follow.

Anna Maria visited our guild last month and taught two classes and gave a trunk show.  The image used with this post is a sample color wheel she uses to help her select colors. She suggests everyone make one to use.

Giving Committee

A new giving committee design was debuted by Matt, called “Improv New York Beauty.”  Instructions are on the blog, and Matt provided fabric. Blocks are due at the March 11 meeting.

The Quiltcon Charity Quilt was already mailed off at the last meeting, but Erica showed pictures of it.  We will get to see the real thing when it is returned.

If you are interested in helping with quilting or binding charity quilts please contact Matt or Rachel.

Pacific Northwest Meet-up Survey – Please fill this out!

The Portland MQG is planning another MQG meetup for this summer.  They have sent out a very brief survey looking for feedback including input on possible dates.  Having some Seattle MQG members attend helps make the meetup more fun for everyone as you get to meet quilters from area guilds.   Please take a moment in the next few days to complete the survey so we can help them make some decisions!
