September 2020 Zoom Meeting Reminder

Quilt: Colorfall by Timna Tarr, 49″ x 54″

Wednesday, September 9, 2020, join us via Zoom, with live video and audio! Social time from 6:30 to 7:00 pm, and again for a short time after our presenter speaks. We will be able to see and hear you via your computer’s camera and microphone. (If you prefer not to be seen/heard, please mute both.)

Paid Seattle MQG members will get a separate email on the first of the month with an invite to register for the meeting. Please follow the link and register right away. If you don’t see this email in your inbox, please check your junk mail folder as it might be there.

Zoom membership meetings are now open only to paid Seattle Modern Quilt Guild members. If you’re getting this blog post via email, and aren’t a member yet, you can join for the remainder of the year. The cost is $29.50 through the rest of 2020. We have some wonderful speakers and activities lined up, please join us!

Seattle MQG will meet virtually for the remainder of 2020, so all meetings going forward will be via Zoom through December 2020. We are disappointed that we won’t be meeting in person, but want to prioritize everyone’s health and safety first.

GUEST PRESENTER:

Timna Tarr: quilter, speaker and teacher

Timna Tarr will join us as our guest presenter for the September meeting. Please join us live to interact with Timna! The meeting will be recorded, and made available to paid Seattle MQG members afterwards.

Timna Tarr comes from a long line of quilters but did not begin quilting until after studying art history in college. She bought her first longarm in 2001 and began quilting clients’ quilts shortly thereafter. Timna’s own nationally award-winning quilts are in private and corporate collections. They have also been seen in numerous exhibits, magazines, and books as well as on The Quilt Show and Quilting Arts TV. Timna is an in-demand teacher and speaker. She lives in South Hadley, MA and works out of her studio in Holyoke, MA.

“My work is about color and small compositions. Each block in a quilt is made as its own element, independent of the other blocks. After all of the blocks are constructed, my goal is to arrange the small compositions to play off each other and work together to create a larger whole. What keeps me engaged is watching how the project changes and transforms with the addition of each color and texture. The resulting quilts are contemporary works, set in this time and place, which reference the rich tradition of quilt making.”

Timna has a variety of virtual workshops you can take right now! They available on CourseCraft: check them out here.

Flying Colors Trunk Show

Timna is known for making fun, colorful, award-winning quilts. Join us for a trunk show of her quilting journey. She will talk about her design and color choices, as well as the personal stories behind the quilts.
