Last year Anne a parent of one of the students at Greenwood Elementary School approached the guild with a request for a quilt that the students of the school can contribute towards and would be auctioned off at their yearly fund raising event.
We settled on a quilt in school colors. Green, blue and gold. The students were asked to make 5″x 5″ blocks in the school colors. Anything goes on the block as long as it is washable. I was amazed at the blocks that were returned. The children did a wonderful job. To add to that there were enough blocks to make two quilts.
Since this blocks were in their school colors, I stuck to the theme and incorporated their school mascot – the star, into the design. I framed each square in a Sawtooth Star block, indicating each child is a star.
I was able to pull enough fabric from the donations made to the guild for the rest of the quilt. Thank you all who contribute.

For the second quilt I chose a curve instead of a sawtooth for the star to mix it up a bit. I love the tie-dye block in orange. Someone is going to turn their nose up at rules and make their own path in life! 🙂

Great idea to use the children’s art work for these school fundraiser quilts! They are beautiful!
