There is only one video this month. It contains the guild business portions of the meeting, including an update on program and workshop plans for 2021, an introduction to Month 5 of the Salsa Medallion BOM and some beautiful quilt eye candy in Sew and Tell.
Our speaker was Teresa Duryea Wong, a scholar and quilt historian. She spoke on “Hello Modern Art, Meet Antique Quilts”. She focused on 6 artists of the “New York School” of the 1950s and paired examples of their works with antique quilts that had similar characteristics. It was fascinating to see the comparisons and easy to imagine the possibility of the artists having been influenced by quilts from their childhood. For those interested in quilts with graphic design, she reminded us that the International Quilt Museum is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Whitney Museum’s influential “Abstract Quilts” show and the exhibit is available virtually through September 4, 2021.
