QuiltCon Community Outreach Quilt 2022

SignUp form so fabric can be mailed for the blocks. Please sign up latest by August 18th, 2021. You don’t need to sign up if you already picked up the fabric at the scrap swap. Fabric will not be mailed to you if you did both.

The guidelines for the quilt can be found here. The theme is Angles.

The overall concept is that members create 3.5″ x 3.5″ unfinished square blocks with random angles in two colors which will then be arranged to form the quilt top. Feel free to add as many angles as you want. Add triangles, polygonal shapes or simple wedges. Each member will be provided enough fabric to make 4 blocks. 1 set = 4 blocks. If you asked for multiple sets you will be able to make as many sets of 4 blocks each. The fabric will be mailed out the weekend of August 21-22.

Sample instructions to make the blocks using stack & whack method.

From the squares provided, place two different colored fabrics together.

Make an angled cut. Please be as imaginative/random with this as possible. You can even make triangles or polygonal shapes, but definitely angled.

Sew the two opposite colored pieces together.

Iron and trim to 3.5″ x 3.5″

Repeat for the next set.

The finished blocks should be received by October 15th, 2021. Please mail them in advance so that they reach us by that date. You can mail them to the following address: Rachel Singh, 3440 NW 65TH ST., Seattle, WA 98117 or arrange for an in-person drop off or pickup with either Jana Royal or Rachel Singh.

Thank you for volunteering!

  1. Another fun block to make for a giving quilt. I used Best Press on the 5″ squares before cutting, figuring that with all the angles, there would be plenty of bias edges coming together. Pressed to the red side, and my 3.5″ creative grids ruler worked great for squaring up. I was able to complete 16 3.5″ blocks during a 2 hour Zoom sew in.

  2. Question: Do you want us to stitch the 4 component blocks together into a 6.5″ block or leave them as individual 3.5″ blocks?

  3. Hi Rachel, I signed up for multiple sets using the form way back in August (before the cutoff) and do not have any blocks yet. Are they on the way? Thanks.
