The video covers the entire meeting, including our speakers, an update on program and workshop plans for 2021/2022, an introduction to Month 8 of the Salsa Medallion BOM and some beautiful quilt eye candy in the photos of the Friendship Mini Mini Swap and Sew and Tell.
Our speakers this month were SMQG members Elizabeth Burstad-Morgan and Noelle Remington. Their talk was “Creative Sustainability 101: The 7 Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Refuse, Repurpose, Repair, Recycle & Rot)”. Elizabeth & Noelle provided an eye-opening set of statistics on the impact of current textile industry processes on the environment, along with some information about how some organizations are working toward sustainable methods for those industries. They conducted considerable research on both what is currently occurring and what can be improved as more people become aware of the environmental impact of textiles through their entire lifecycle. Their slideshow provides great details and has been recorded for members to view. They are also creating a resources document for members interested in ways to be more mindful of the 7 Rs.
Rachel and Jana have developed a fun improv concept for our Quiltcon Community Outreach Quilt for 2022 based on the theme “Angles”. We are doing a two color quilt. Fabric will be provided by the guild. You can pick up units at the swap on Saturday, Aug 14 or have them mailed to you. To help with planning and preparation of units, please sign up as soon as possible.
