It’s always wonderful to finish a giving quilt and send it out into the world, but this month we have THREE completed quilts, which feels really really good! Thanks to so many of you in the guild who came up with a quilt design, shared fabric, made blocks, pieced tops, quilted, and bound….it takes many hands!
First up is our May Giving Committee quilt, made with cuts of green American Made Brand solids given by Clothworks mixed with members’ stash solids. Using the green as the dominant color in our blocks, we made improv squares… and more squares, until we made 14 ½” blocks.

Inspiration for this next quilt started with the center blocks, which came from a printed panel on the “free” table at this year’s spring Vashon retreat. Coordinating fabrics (including those mustard colored sheep!) purchased from Island Quilter‘s pop up shop became improv log cabin blocks created by Emily Steed, Grace Lainhart, Judy White, Sheila Randall, Kim MacDonald, Maggie Grate and several others whose names we didn’t capture. Amy Steed assembled the quilt top and provided a soft minky backing. Judy White quilted it; as she says, “There’s a little swirly summer breeze following the sheep and the bees around those dandelion puffs!” During the fall Camp Huston retreat, Amy finished it with a bias binding made from a Loominous plaid. Now it’s ready to go to the Northwest Breast Center.
